Terms of service
Last updated 31 October 2026
In short: OsaBooks is free. Use it for your own books or your clients'. It does the working, but you remain responsible for what you file, so check the figures. It comes with no warranty, and the online service may change or stop, so keep backups of your books.
Who these terms are with
These terms are between you and hidicker, who makes OsaBooks (called NZOSA until 31 October 2026) in New Zealand ("we", "us"). They cover the website at nbparagliding.nz/osabooks, the online demo, and keeping books online by signing in. By using them you agree to these terms. Contact: nzosa@proton.me.
The software
The OsaBooks software is free software under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or later, with the additional terms in its NOTICE. That licence, not these terms, governs copying, changing and sharing the code. Running OsaBooks on your own computer needs no account, and these terms apply to it only where they say so.
Your account
- Give a real email address you can receive mail at, or sign in with your own Google account.
- Keep your sign-in to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
- Invite to your books only people who should see them, with the role they need.
Your books are yours
You own everything you put into OsaBooks. We claim no rights over it. We store and process it only to provide the service to you and the people you share it with, as set out in our privacy policy. You can download a backup at any time.
Acceptable use
Do not use OsaBooks to break the law, to hold data you have no right to hold, to try to reach other people's books, to attack or overload the service, or to misuse the shared AI (for example by automating requests to get round its limits). We may suspend an account that does.
Not tax or accounting advice
OsaBooks does mechanical work: coding, matching, GST, depreciation and the figures for returns. It is not an accountant or a tax agent, and nothing it shows is advice. AI suggestions can be wrong. Check every figure before you rely on it or file it. You, or the accountant or tax agent you work with, remain responsible for every return filed with Inland Revenue.
The online service
The online service is provided free, by one person, as is. We aim to keep it running and your books safe, but we do not promise it will always be available, free of errors, or offered for ever. We may change it, limit features such as the shared AI, or stop it. If we plan to stop keeping books online, we will give at least 30 days' notice in the app and by email where we can, so you can download your books. Keep your own backups.
No warranty, and limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, OsaBooks and the online service come without warranty of any kind, and we are not liable for any loss, including lost data, lost profits, penalties, interest or the cost of correcting a return, arising from using them or being unable to. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the service, which is nothing. If you use OsaBooks for a business, you agree the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply, as section 43 of that Act allows. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under New Zealand law that cannot be limited.
Donations
Donations are voluntary and buy no extra rights, features or support. They are processed by Stripe and are not refundable except as the law requires.
Ending
You can stop using OsaBooks at any time, delete your books, and ask us to delete your account at nzosa@proton.me.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The new version will be posted here with a new date, and significant changes will be shown to signed-in users in the app. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept them.
Law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the courts of New Zealand decide any dispute.
