The package includes a new Gin paraglider & harness from the renowned Gin paragliding company.  The Bolero 7 is perfect for the formative years of a flying career, from first steps to first thermals and well beyond.  The Evora is for talented beginners and established leisure pilots, who will appreciate the unique qualities of the Evora.

Harness options include:

  • Gin harnesses (Verso & Gingo)
  • Davinci Soul Harness: Easiness, comfort and durability for the first flights and accuracy
  • Woody Valley Exense Air:  Designed specifically for novice pilots.  A simple, cleanly-designed and safe product, which also provides comfort, with excellent detailing and finish.

The PG2 course follows your completion of the PG1 course and, upon graduation, will enable you to fly unsupervised. The course includes, at a minimum:

  • Theory Lessons: Covering meteorology, Visual Flight Rules, flight technique & equipment.
  • Ground Handling Training: Focused on improving your wing control and launches.
  • Flight Experience: Flying at four different sites.
  • Supervised Flights: A minimum of 40 flights under supervision.
  • Flight Time: At least five hours of flight time under supervision.
  • Weather Conditions: Experience flying in various weather conditions, including both light and strong winds.
  • Launch Methods: Training in both reverse and forward launch techniques.
  • Descent Techniques: Using ‘big ears’ for descent.
  • Speed Bar Usage: Practicing the use of the speed bar for situations that require increased speed.

During the spring, summer, and autumn months, students should complete the course within four months.  Our primary focus is on teaching you to be a safe pilot. By the end of the course, you will be able to demonstrate the required PG2 skills and pass the three necessary theory exams.

The components above are the minimum requirements. Most pilots will complete more than the required 40 flights and five hours of training before graduating. Typically, once the core requirements are met, we will progress to teaching additional skills such as wingovers and top landings.

After graduating from the course, we remain available for advice. On most teaching days, we welcome you to rejoin us for additional help and mentoring to ensure you can confidently fly independently.

Instructors: Your primary instructors will be Hamish Dicker and Steve O’Shaughnessy, both of whom are qualified NZHGPA paragliding instructors. If additional or replacement instructors are needed, they will also hold the necessary licences issued by the NZHGPA.
